Artist's Comments

This is the description I put on Yerf:
I was reading a WWF magazine, and I saw an inspiring young kit. It was rather interesting, because they had managed to take a photo of it when it looked really sad. And I felt a connection between that young animal and kids who have to work at the age of nine, etc. I don't know what I want to say with the picture. I guess in a way I want to say everything. It could be a funny picture, or one of those "aww cute" ones. I'd like that, but for me it'll always be "He has no parents."
----

I wasn't sure if the subject was too political for Yerf... but here I feel more secure or bold.
He has no parents, so he has to work to support all of his siblings. It's happening out there, though they aren't anthros. More like human cubs. Ah, and I suppose I want this picture to mean something about the original WWF article. Which is about the same, just that it's about animals other than humans.

Incredibly surreal. The style you've used lends itself very well to the mood. Amazing work.

Beautiful, Stroid, and so sad... =( (Sad) This pic might convey the working-for-siblings thing a little better if you did a non-jungley background? You know, stick him in a factory or dirty city... It's lovely the way it is too, of course...

I love the painting, of course. His expression is priceless is well. The only problem I have with his emotion, really, is that he's way too... puffy? to think of as oppressed or stressed out. Crying out loud, at first I thought he'd gotten his head stuck in a dryer...
It's excellent work anyway, though.

It's very refreshing to see a more realistic anthro instead of cutesy. I like it :) (Smile)

Wow. I really like the style you used for the body...something refreshing for anthro. If you had applied the same effort to the background, you'd have an even better image! :) (Smile)

Oh damn. That's so sad. And I love the sketchy, straight lines you used with the fur and shirt. It makes the smooth, almost liquid eyes seem all the more tragic. Good job.

An excellent new rendition of an anthro... You managed to capture the youth and the sadness perfectly in his facial expressions, and the picture's very beautiful in its melancholy.
